First impressions are Everything.

A first impression is extremely important, as that is how potential employers create their initial thought on whether or not you would be a good hire.  With so many applicants and so very few positions, it is absolutely necessary to make the best first impression you possible can.  A great way to do this is by creating a LinkedIn page where you are able to show yourself off and find ways to separate your abilities from peers.  By being able to show off your skills, employers can easily take notice of the qualities they are looking for.  The first thing you must do in order to catch employers’ attention is to take a professional head shot.

The School of Public Heafull-poster-verticallth Career Services is having LinkedIn Photo Booth this week from December 5th – December 9th during the hours of 10am – 12pm at the Student Services Suite.  By taking a professional photo you are going to make a great first impression, which will give you the edge when employers’ are looking to make hires.  By putting yourself out to the world in a professional setting the only thing that can happen is an increase in chances to impress potential employers.  More than ever, there are many companies looking for people to hire on LinkedIn and the first thing they will notice is the headshots of potential candidates they find to fill in their openings.  Taking a head shot takes as little as 10 minutes, so why not take a small amount of time to potentially give your future a monumental boost.

There are a ton of jobs out in the world that you have never heard of but are related to goals you have for your future.  Having a well put together LinkedIn profile will increase your chances of getting different job offers that you might be interested in.  Using LinkedIn gives you the opportunity to show employers who you truly are and what makes you unique.  This helps when there are numerous applicants and not much to separate you from your peers.

LinkedIn allows you to connect with professionals in your industry by InMail which allows you to talk to people that are in your industry.  By connecting online, it is especially important to make a great first impression through your headshot or else your connection will not take you seriously.  LinkedIn is the perfect way to create relationships with professionals in your industry and as a college student, this is very critical in determined the level of success you will have in landing your dream job.

Everyone is always saying, “It’s who you know, not what you know”.

LinkedIn is the perfect place to get to know professionals.  This is important because even though you may be over qualified for a job, there may be thousands of applicants and if you don’t make yourself recognizable to the hirer, you will have less chance of getting the job you desire.  LinkedIn is also a great place to show off your creativity and knowledge for the industry you want to work for.  By gaining a LinkedIn profile and following through unique posts, you are more likely to be noticed and this helps because employers are looking for more and more most unique talents that they can hire for their company.

Overall, LinkedIn is going to help you develop a professional reputation, so what are you waiting for?  Come to the career services office and take your first step towards impressing the world.
