Position Overview:
20-hour a week commitment, with some evening and weekend hours required.
Tuition remission (maximum of 30 credit hours per year) and an approximately $20,000 stipend.
The Office for Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Advocacy is committed to ending sexual violence on IU’s campus. Staff members work on both sides of the issue – prevention and response. Confidential Victim Advocates (CVA’s) provide students who have experienced any form of sexual misconduct with confidential assistance in resolving personal and academic problems so that they may maintain progress towards earning a degree. Staff members on the Prevention Team coordinate the It’s On Us: Alcohol and Consent bystander intervention workshops; support the student initiative Culture of Care; and coordinate and provide sexual violence prevention programming for the campus. The Prevention Team also engages students in sexual health programs.
The Graduate Assistant’s primary role will be to help plan and execute sexual violence prevention and sexual health programming to the campus community. This includes, but is not limited to, It’s On Us: Alcohol and Consent Bystander Intervention Training, outreach events with our campus cultural centers, and signature programming for Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will:
• Assist with planning and implementing outreach and prevention efforts for the Office for Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Advocacy including the distribution of educational materials related to sexual violence prevention, sexual health and campus resources;
• Assist with program coordination and logistics for the It’s On Us: Alcohol and Consent program, which includes providing support and training to the peer education team as well as serving as a facilitator on an as needed basis.
• Attend weekly meetings with the Assistant Director for Sexual Violence Prevention, regular staff meetings with Office for Sexual Violence Prevention and Victim Advocacy staff members, and additional meetings with campus partners as needed;
GA Requirements:
• Interest in working in sexual violence prevention, sexual health, and bystander intervention educational efforts;
• Prior experience providing workshops and/or planning programs;
• Prior experience presenting on or discussing sensitive topics with students, such as sexual violence, emotional well-being, substance use and healthy relationships;
• Commit to attend one-on-one supervision meetings each week
• Conduct yourself in a professional and ethical manner
• Use trauma-informed and inclusive language in presentations and organization meetings
• Commit to honor the job description requirements and duties
• A desire to learn about Title IX and the role it plays on campus
• A desire to learn best practices for supporting survivors of sexual misconduct
• A desire to learn and implement programs on topics related to sexual and reproductive health
• Able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends

The Office of Student Life helps students make the most of their experience at Indiana University. The departments within the Office for Student Life provide support services to students, co-curricular engagement opportunities, and programs aimed at personal development.
