I CAN PERSIST (ICP) STEM Initiative
Do you ever feel like you are the only woman and person of color in your STEM classes? Have you ever questioned whether you belong to STEM? Are interested in being part of a community of other Women of color in STEM at IU?
If you answered yes to these questions, I invite you to participate in the I CAN PERSIST STEM Initiative!
The I CAN PERSIST (ICP) STEM Initiative is a culturally relevant program designed to advance STEM persistence among undergraduate and graduate women from African American/Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and Asian ethnic communities enrolled in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs at Indiana University Bloomington. ICP uses a holistic multigenerational mentorship framework to reaffirm students’ belonging to STEM and foster renewed commitment to careers in STEM fields.
Since 2017, ICP scholars have had a stellar track record of securing competitive jobs and internships in STEM, successfully accomplished academic milestones (e.g., qualifying exams, dissertation proposals, etc), and above all else, have described feeling supported, celebrated, and affirmed by an oasis of Women of Color in STEM.
We hope that you are as excited as we are about the prospects of standing in solidarity with Women of Color who have embarked on a similar journey in STEM while also gaining invaluable career and educational resources.
To hear more about ICP, feel free to watch the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 scholars describe their experience in ICP, view our flyer and brochure, check out our Instagram or Facebook pages, or browse our website.
If you are interested in participating in the ICP STEM Initiative, please complete the application below. We ask that you submit your application as soon as possible and no later than 5:00pm on Thursday, July 1st.
