Rate: $12 USD per hour
Purpose of Position:
The Recreation Intern will work within the Recreation & Facilities division to assist in developing and implementing recreation programs. They will gain experience in personnel management, facility operations, member services, programming, and fitness. This position will work primarily at the Monon Community Center and Waterpark.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Assist recreation staff in planning, supervising, and evaluating recreation programs.
- Educate program participants and facility users on applicable policies and procedures.
- Respond to public inquiries, suggestions, and complaints. Researches and professionally resolves issues.
- Responsible for database management.
- Uses excellent customer service skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and members of the public.
- Attend meetings associated with the division, including department staff meetings and staff trainings.
- Assists facility guests with day pass sales, membership sales, tours, and recreation program registration according to department policies and procedures.
- Assist recreation managers with tasks related to the completion of CCPR department goals.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to work a varied schedule including days, evenings, and weekends.
- Ability to positively promote the image of Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to operate a computer utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, and recreation software applications as may be necessary to perform essential job functions.
- Performance of essential functions may require exposure to outdoor elements, such as humidity, rain, and temperature extremes.
Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Student in either a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in parks and recreation, hospitality management, or related field.
Must Complete Prior to Starting with Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation
- Must pass a background check that encompasses national, state and local searches.
