MUST BE GARY RESIDENT
Nature of Work:
Responsible for daily operations of the Park system. Supervise Park Employees. Prepares the annual budgets and develop programs. Prepares state and federal grants.
Essential Functions: OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED:
Include the Following:
Prepares the annual budget. Responds to inquires and complaints.
Develops and maintains park and recreation master plan.
Conduct routine visual inspections.
Conduct public relations programs.
Direct and maintain cost control.
Provides direction and assistance to staff.
Networks with various agencies in providing services to the citizen of Gary, Indiana.
Works under the direct supervision of the Chief of Staff and the Mayor of the City of Gary.
Receiving and performing all duties in a timely and professional manner.
Supervises the entire Park staff and Supervisors.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Required:
Knowledge of budgets. Knowledge of state and federal grant guidelines.
Problem solving ability. Well organized and capable of multi-tasking.
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal. Must have the ability to trouble shoot difficult situations to avoid conflicts with employees and the public.
Capable of working under pressure.
Knowledge of office procedures and protocol.

Training and Experience Required:
Combination of education and experience normally acquired through the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in specified area of expertise or a related field.
