Fernwood Cove located in Harrison, Maine, is a girls summer camp, offering traditional residential camp experiences in 3 ½ week sessions for girls ages 7-17.
Our dates for the 2021 season are June 3 – August 16. Some staff will be scheduled to arrive as late as June 9. Arrival is determined by the staff member’s position and additional training requirements.
Interns are typically involved in coordinating various aspects of camp. Sometimes this is specialized like our Program/Trips Coordinator. Or it could be more broad like office operations. We are happy to work with students to tailor their experience to meet internship requirements. For example, if a student is passionate about art then we could place them as a counselor in our arts department teaching an activity. And their internship could be creating new curriculum, training materials, or a completely new arts option for camp. Our main goal is for interns to complete work that meets their needs, but also provides Fernwood Cove with programs, resources, etc. that benefit us this summer and in the future.
For internships the immediate options are available:
- Office Staff, Social Media Coordinator
- Program/Trip Coordinator
- Camp Photographer
For these roles the staff members are a part of our administrative team and summer leadership team. They typically do not live in a bunk with campers. These applicants need to have past professional and/or academic experience to prepare for them for the responsibilities in these positions.
We also have a variety of activity counselor positions in our various activity areas (Adventure, Creative & Studio Arts, Athletics & Fitness, Performing Arts, Waterfront, and Horsemanship). As I mentioned above these can be transitioned into internships for the right applicants.
For counselor positions the staff member is an activity instructor as well as a camper bunk counselor. They are responsible for leading instructional activities in their specific activity area as well as overseeing the daily aspects of residential life for their bunk of campers. Counselors work alongside their co-counselors in both their activity areas and their bunks to coordinate the various aspects of the day. Counselors also help lead evening programs, camp events, and camp trips.
All positions, including internships, are paid positions. Our salary structure starts with a base pay and “add-ons” are included based on prior experience, training, certification, etc. All positions also include lodging, laundry service, and other benefits like wifi and designated staff social spaces for time off.
The best way to apply is via our online application: www.fernwoodcove.com/apply Students can also submit their resume for review to Alicia (alicia@fernwoodcove.com). Students submitting a resume via email should also provide details regarding the position(s) that most interest them for the summer.
