Do you want to make history by getting the COVID-19 vaccine out to your community? The Monroe County Medical Reserve Corps is seeking volunteers to help with the upcoming COVID-19 vaccine clinics! Volunteers are needed to help in both medical (administering vaccines) and non-medical roles (greeters, traffic control, exit/evaluation).
See the information below that explain how to apply and who may administer vaccines; students who do not meet that criteria will still be needed to fill non-medical support roles.
The Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) is a national program organized locally to coordinate volunteers in the event of a disaster, but we also build community resiliency in times of peace through public health education and offering trainings. Anyone is free to join, medical and non-medical, as long as he/she is 18 years or older and does not have a criminal history. We are health educators, nurses, doctors, students, retirees, teachers, social workers, technicians, government employees, office clerks, retail employees, and more!
When there is an emergency, we only respond when activated by the state or the local emergency management office, and volunteer roles can vary depending upon your background. Your time and involvement is always completely voluntary, even in the case of an emergency.
To become a volunteer, you will need to fill register for SERV-IN. The State Registry of Emergency Volunteer of Indiana is how we will contact you for an emergency, which you are then given the option to respond or not to respond. We also use SERV-IN to access volunteer contact information, deployment preferences, any completed trainings or licenses, and more. Here is how to register for this free system.
1. Go to www.SERV-IN.org
2. Click on “Register Now” on the right side of the page
3. Under “Organizations”, click on “Add Organizations”
4. Click on the”+” sign next to “County” then “Monroe” to select “Monroe County MRC”
5. Click on “Select”
6. Under “Account Information”, create a username and password; then choose a secret question and secret answer
7. Read the “Terms of Service” and “Information Pledge”. Agree to the terms by checking off the check boxes
8. Fill out the “Name and Address” and “Contact Information” sections
a. Under “Contact Method 1” select SMS/Text Msg and be sure to select your phone carrier below your phone number
9. Under “Occupation Information”, select your occupation type: medical or nonmedical
10. Choose your specific occupation from the drop down list and click “Next”
11. Continue completing your account until it is 100% complete
12. Be sure to regularly update your contact information and add any trainings or certificates you receive

The following individuals are permitted to administer immunizations either under existing scope of practice, State Health Commissioner’s Standing Order,. or HHS PREP Act declaration:
• Pharmacists and Pharmacy Interns/Students – Each pharmacy student in Indiana has an intern license with the Board of Pharmacy upon entering pharmacy school, even if they are not employed in a pharmacy setting
• Pharmacy Technicians
• Nursing School Students – May administer vaccines. under the supervision of their preceptor, as determined by the nursing school
• Paramedics
• Advanced EMTs
• Medical and physician assistant students (with supervision)
