What is you and your educational background, career path, and current position?
My name is Matt Waitz, and I attended the University of Illinois and graduated in 2000. My first job out of school was an internship at Paragon. I have worked my way up in the company for the last 17 years, and I am currently a Vice President that works on our Gatorade, Giant Eagle, and PPG Paints accounts along with managing the hiring process.
What type of positions will you be recruiting at the Sport & Business Career Focus Fair?
Opportunities include the Project Coordinator position available January 2018 for December and May graduates along with the Summer Road Warrior positions available May 2018 for underclassmen looking for a summer job.
What competencies, skills, qualifications do you seek in your candidates?
Looking for highly motivated people who are personable, detail oriented, organized, hard-working, and are excited to work in a fast-paced team environment.
What piece of career advice do you have for current IU students?
Get experience in the field that you are interested in before you graduate. Working for the University Athletic Department, Rec Center, or a minor league team are all great experiences because you have to handle multiple responsibilities which will prepare you for working in the sports industry. The more experience you get before you graduate the better prepared you will be for when you get your first job out of school. There are also great newsletters and websites to check out that provide updates on the latest industry trends.

When will you be visiting the IU Campus and how can students connect with you?
Paragon will be attending the Sport & Business Career Focus Fair on October 12th. Both the Project Coordinator and Road Warrior positions will be posted before that time. If you are interested in a position please apply and find our booth at the fair to say hello.
